The traditional approaches to teaching at all levels have largely involved the chalk and board. While such an approach had its merit in its time, the new digital age requires innovative approaches in teaching as well as in administration of educational institutions. Essentially there is a Science behind education that has evolved
overtime to include different facts of information and communications technologies, despite the area of concentration—Elementary, Secondary and Higher Education, as well as Administration of Educational
Institutions, Special Education, etc. Essentially, ICTs can be creatively and innovatively integrated at all levels. Further, many developing nations still do not have Science of Education programs at the graduate (masters and doctoral) levels. Hence, the ICT University MSc and PhD program in Science of Education with concentrations in the following areas: ICT Education, Educational Leadership, Educational Policy, Entrepreneurship Education, Early Childhood Education and Special Education.
The ICT University’s joint MSc/PhD program in Science of Education is designed as a combination of research and professional training to meet the emerging needs of educators. Students who join our program
will be groomed in intensive hands-on educational technologies as well as in rigorous research and methodological issues. Our graduates will be ready for careers in education and industry. Students, who may
not want to pursue a PhD. degree, have the option to enroll in our MSc. in Science Education program.
The MSc/PhD programs in Sciences Education are rigorous masters and doctoral programs that require yearround study. The Education Sciences master and doctoral students will be required to designate at the time of application an advanced concentration that they would like to complete. Concentrations include:
These concentrations will give students the expert knowledge to understand and to contribute to solving
complex educational problems globally, but with a specific focus on the realities of developing nations.
NB: The Science of Education Masters and PhD. programs will take-off with two concentrations, i.e., in a,
and b above, and as we progress, the concentrations in c, d, e, and f above will be added to the Program at
both the Master and PhD levels.
PhD joint degree total Core Courses and Manuscript Development (90 credit hours)
The program offers a range of courses for the MSc/PhD joint program in Science of Education. Though muchof the coursework is dependent upon the student’s area of concentration, students will be required to take a
series of lecture-based, intensive hands-on (laboratory) practice and research-driven courses. They will also be required to do a three-month practicum after they have completed all their course work. The program of study will include:
Students who decide to pursue only an MSc., will be required to complete 39 hours of course work

The Science of Education program at ICT-U provides all students (regardless of their area of specialization) a
strong grounding in ICTs. We do so because of our belief in ICT as a major driver in Science of Education.
Students will benefit from a great mix of Cameroon and US-based professors, who are experienced and
knowledgeable in different socio-economic, cultural, academic and industrial backgrounds. Below are
(unedited) comments from current Masters and Doctoral students at the ICT University:
The General Manager for Sales, Hitachi Africa, a third-year PhD student with ICT-U, Augustine Ngongban, said ICT is enriching him to do his job better and to transfer skills to other young Africans who need them for the growth of the continent. “The knowledge acquired, so far, at ICT-U is phenomenal. I am in a position to excel with ICT, especially at my work place, increase efficiency and productivity.”
Julius Fomboh, another student of ICT-U and a staff of the Ministry of Secondary Education, said he is studying ICT in order to make an impact in his community. “As an educationist, you must have the knowledge in what you are doing and my stay at ICT-U is making that possible. The knowledge acquired will help me train the younger generation,” he said.
From the Malian Ministry of Higher Education, Aïcha Walet Mohamed, PhD student of ICT-U, said she is studying ICT to train the nomad students in Mali. “We have to teach them the kind of ICTs to use, when and how. The nomads are always moving, so they need this particular training,” she remarked.
