Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications

Telecommunications is simply communications at a distance using channels that can go beyond city, state and national boundaries. In essence, telecommunications involves the transmission of voice, data, video, or images over a distance by electrical, electromagnetic, light, and wireless media. The bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications explores the broadcasting and communication of data, video and voice through phones, media technology and computers. Students have a choice to focus on either mass media such as film and Television or telecommunication technology.

Telecommunications unites the areas of electrical engineering with computer science – the outcome being the design and enhancement of telecommunication systems. Telecommunications Engineers design, develop and maintain all aspects of voice and data communications systems – from satellite and optical fiber networks to data encoding, compression and encryption.

This is a three year program for students taking classes in the Spring, Summer and Fall semesters. Regular and part-time students are allowed to go above three years, however, students cannot be allowed in the program after five years. Students are required to complete at least 96 credit hours selected from a list of the core, required and elective courses offered. All students prior to graduation must carry out a scientific research project supervised one-on-one by a faculty member. This is a blended program because some of the courses are delivered online while others are based on the traditional classroom approach with a lot of hands-on in practical activities and assignments.
